Congratulations to our 2022 scholarship winners. All our scholars are pursuing a degree or certificate in healthcare in the fall of 2022.
Each winner received $100 to spend anyway they would like. Preference was given to Delawareans. It is our vision that the funding will help healthcare students with non-tuition related expenses such as self-care or gas money to get to clinical sites.
DIHEA was started by clinicians who know first-hand the importance of clinical experience and the need for self-care. Our mission is to encourage Delawareans to pursue education in healthcare.
Of all our scholars, 70% are residents of Delaware with participation from all three Delaware counties. Their aspirations include nursing, dentistry, medicine, physical therapy, and physician assistant.
Thank you to our independent reviewers and donors for their support for the 2022 DIHEA scholarships.

"I have just completed my first year at the University of Delaware with a major in the Nursing program and a Forensic Science minor. I grew up never wanting to go into the medical field at all, as my mom who has been a nurse for the past 28 years and would constantly come home with horror stories from work at the hospital when I was younger.
When I was old enough and the opportunity arose, I started volunteering at Beebe Healthcare, and instantly fell in love with it and everything the healthcare field had to offer. I've been fortunate enough to have amazing mentors in various departments such as the Cardiac Catheterization Lab, Radiology, Same-Day Surgery, and many more. I currently work seasonally in the MedSurg department as a CNA, and I genuinely believe working in an acute care area has given me a headstart on my career and given me experiences that my peers will not get to have until clinical rotation.
My plans for the next year include a heavy courseload Fall Semester and then studying abroad in Limerick Ireland Spring Semester. My end goal at the moment is to become a Nurse Anesthetist, but I am looking forward to shadowing more positions and receiving more experience in different departments.
Again, I am very thankful to be receiving this award, and I look forward to pursuing my future in the medical field!"
"Having a bit of extra money that can be used to get coffee with a friend and catch up may not directly contribute to a student’s academic record, but I feel the psychological and emotional benefit are usually under-recognized. Looking back, I think a scholarship like this would have been an encouragement, even though it isn’t a life changing sum.”
