About Nurses & Neighbors Collaborative Inc.

Nurses & Neighbors is a Delaware-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit of nurses and community members who work together to support the health and well-being of our neighborhoods. 

We started as seven nurses who lived next door to one another in Sussex County, Delaware. We shared ideas on the Nextdoor platform, answered questions from neighbors, and slowly realized that many people needed simple, direct support that nurses are well positioned to provide. Over time, other nurses joined in, and the group grew beyond one neighborhood.

In July 2022, we incorporated as nonprofit so we could work more openly with community partners and support more neighborhoods. Our name reflects our purpose: nurses working alongside neighbors and organizations to strengthen health and well-being.

Our members create and lead projects based on community need. Some projects serve a single neighborhood. Others involve long-term planning, partnerships, advocacy, and policy work that benefits a wider population.

Nurses & Neighbors is a 2024 Lt. Governor’s Wellness Challenge – Community Spotlight Award recipient and a 2023 AARP Community Challenge grantee.

We work closely with HOAs, community organizations, and public health partners. We also participate in the Delaware Respite Coalition, Volunteer Delaware, Advancing Healthy Lifestyle Coalition, Health Literacy Council of Delaware, Delaware Caregivers Action Network, and the Delaware State Health Improvement Plan Coalition.

As community partners requested our support beyond Sussex County, our work has expanded into additional neighborhoods.

 Our work reflects what neighbors ask for and what nurses observe in the community. Examples include:

• Providing foot care and support for people experiencing homelessness
   
• Assisting at community vaccination clinics
   
• Sharing health information with neighborhood groups
   
• Supporting caregiving, chronic disease prevention, mobility, and transportation access through nurse-led efforts
   
• Collaborating with local and national partners to fill gaps in community health
  

We rely on grants, donations, volunteer time, and the reputation of the nursing profession as the most trusted profession for 23 years in a row to carry out our programs.
