Neighborhood Foot Care Patrol® is a Nurses & Neighbors Collaborative initiative bringing foot health education and screenings directly into the community — with a focus on older adults, individuals experiencing homelessness, and underserved neighbors.
The Patrol launched in late summer 2025 with the recruitment and training of volunteer nurses and community partners. By October 2025, the team began delivering screenings at libraries, shelters, health fairs, and community sites across Delaware.
Since then, the Patrol has reached more than 160 individuals through over a dozen outreach events, providing foot health assessments, education, and referrals — often addressing needs that might otherwise go unmet.
Spring 2026 marks the completion of our initial screening phase. We are now focusing on community education and outreach, with plans to relaunch screenings in Fall 2026.
Foot health directly affects health and longevity. Healthy feet help prevent falls, support mobility, and protect independence — especially for older adults and vulnerable neighbors.
Our trained patrol volunteers will:
We follow a simple, evidence-informed framework called CPR for Foot Care™*:

This work is made possible by our donors and a generous grant from the Highmark Delaware Fund at the Delaware Community Foundation — thank you for believing in this work and helping us get it off the ground.

This spring, we met neighbors where they are and learned from over 100 feet and 1,000+ toes. This summer, we’re shifting to community education and outreach in partnership with DE250, exploring the connection between mobility, freedom, and health.
We’re taking what we’ve learned, sharing it with the community, and refining our approach.
Screenings will return in Fall 2026 — stronger, smarter, and built from the ground up.
We’re also excited to share that Nurses & Neighbors has been recognized as a community partner of Delaware 250, the statewide commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary. Through this initiative, we’re highlighting the importance of mobility, prevention, and independence as part of Delaware’s story across generations. Follow us on social media—we’ll be inviting your participation along the way.

From shelters to senior centers, we’re wrapping up our inaugural round of foot screenings (and yes… a LOT of toes). The need is real—and so is the impact.
Join us and our community partners for our first Community Event as we share what we’ve learned from 100+ feet and 1,000+ toes. Refreshments included. Registration required due to limited space.
Monday, April 13 (11 AM–1 PM), Lewes Public Library, Lewes, DE. Registration required due to limited space. Refreshments will be provided. Register at https://forms.gle/P2vfwieYC6SSDJyb7.

"Our partnership with Nurses & Neighbors keeps making a real difference year-round ...These amazing nurses visit clients to spot signs of underlying conditions, check if footwear is safe and comfortable, and ensure socks and shoes are clean and wearable. If not – we provide new socks! A huge thank you to Nurses & Neighbors for
helping our community put their best foot forward!"
