The 2024 Point-in-Time Count, coordinated by Housing Alliance Delaware, offers a snapshot of the growing homelessness crisis across the state:

- 1,358 individuals were counted

- 1,120 were in temporary shelters

- 238 were unsheltered — a 58% increase since 2020

- 60% identified as Black or African American

- Nearly 360 children were experiencing homelessness

- More than 500 individuals were age 55 or older

➡️ Advocates believe the true number is likely even higher.

These numbers reflect the urgent need for shelter, stability, and access to health services—especially for older adults, families, and those with chronic conditions. That’s why, at the Community Resource Center in Rehoboth Beach, a nurse-led clinic quietly fills the gap.

 In 2022, Dr. Jane Kurz, co-founder of Nurses & Neighbors and a local resident, began offering wellness checks for unhoused adults at the CRC. With support from CRC staff and volunteers, her one-person effort has grown into a weekly clinic providing:

Referrals to dental, urgent care, and behavioral health

- Health education, listening, and trust-building

 Located at 37510 Oyster House Road in Rehoboth Beach, CRC is a vital resource for people facing housing insecurity. They offer:

- Food, hygiene, and clothing support

- Job search and benefit navigation

- Shelter access during winter (Code Purple) and summer months

- A safe, welcoming space open daily during shelter seasons
